Physical Description

Fairly typical height and weight. Muscular for his weight, largely as a result of years of manual labor. Skin is a bit lighter than the common Houstoner, however

No overt scars or tattoos, although his hands to bear a number of very minor scars from operating machinery without the appropriate gloves. Along with that, his hands are calloused enough that he could be identified as a laborer. Other than a metal watch with most of the paint scratched, chipped, and rubbed off he wears no jewelry.

His face is wrinkled a little more than should be expected of a 27 year old, owing this to Houston’s native harsh environment. His brows are thick and a slightly darker blonde than his hair. He is always clean shaven if he can manage to get to chance to trim, although life isn’t always kind in that regard. Otherwise, he has a fairly unassuming look to his features. Overall the bone structure is not quite right for the usual Liberty citizen, but it is not different enough to clearly be any other ethnicity.

Personality

Laid back about most things in life, he is just drifting along usually looking to make some friends and have a good day. “Hand him a glass of LibAle and you’ll probably make a new friend of him.” Generally looking to see the good in people, he does have a problem of forgiving people for past transgressions if he thinks there is a genuine chance that the slight was not intentional. That said, he is not one to be taken advantage of and will attempt to block situations where he might be adversely used. He is usually more than willing to help just about anyone if he has the time or ability to do so, and if the need is really pressing he will often make the time. Morally and ethically he is not the best, not the worst, but better than a lot of people.

Childhood

Born and raised on planet Houston by LPI prison guard Frank Locust. While better off than a majority of Houston residents, it was still not a privileged childhood. Father enrolled him in school via correspondence with an institution based out of Manhattan, citing the terrible quality of local Houston education.

His father was a fairly calm headed man, only getting angry around some of the less reputable characters Mark ran with during his teenage years. Struck his son only on one occasion. Mark had beaten one of his friends quite badly and almost killed him, apparently because he made a comment about making contact with some active Rogues who were offering credits to anyone who might give them the location of any LPI. Turns out the friend was bluffing, making a joke in poor taste. Frank would not have his son becoming some hothead like the inmates he had to deal with daily. A little underage drinking, a lot of saying out later than he should. Otherwise, a mostly common childhood for a kid living on a penal colony like Houston.

Adulthood

At about age 18, Mark’s father would make his final trip off planet. While exact details were never given, there was a prison riot started by the Xeno inmates, which ended up claiming the life of Frank Locust. Left with no income, and being of a working age, Mark went into factory work alongside other former inmates and natives. He moved in with the family of a friend, and there he stayed while working for the next six years. Started work on some self-education during this time, for pleasure and to better fit in with normal Liberty society. Scraped together money enough to finance himself a ship to get off of Houston. Otherwise, those six years were painfully uneventful. Putting in 40 to 60 hours a week working a factory line as well as some odd jobs for spare credits. Having a drink with friends when he was not working or up to something.

He did eventually get a basic freighter on a financing program, and began independent contract trading to pay off his loan. In about one year he had paid off the loan, although to do so he was almost constantly flying goods from one place to another, without ever stopping for longer than was needed. While the constant flight was a good way to keep up on his reading, letting the navigation computer deal with 95% of the flight, he was left without any social contacts outside Houston.

After getting his freighter paid off, he ended up signing up with a transportation group in Universal Shipping, which took up his next two years. He continued much as he had before, spending most of his time reading or otherwise distracting himself while moving through space. The crew compliment to the transport ship he lead for a while likely would not remember his face because he spent so little time with them. The deal he made with the Universal group to get his foot in the door on hauling cargo ended up putting him back in debt for maintenance and other costs he had not anticipated when he took the job. This, added to Universal’s infamously dangerous routes ended up leaving Mark with a bad taste in his mouth about the whole affair. It was not the opportunity he had left Houston to find. Eventually, a particular escort fighter helped to convince him to throw off the life of a trader and take to Sirius as a freelancer.
