An aging Eagle class Dreadnought, the McNeil Island was saved from the scrapyard and repurposed for guard duty around the perimeter of Zone 84 in the Colorado system. Repairs made to the ship after reassignment were minimal, thus rendering it barely more than a giant weapons platform with minimal thruster capabilities.

Although under the command of One Police Plaza, the McNeil Island is crewed almost entirely by Navy personnel, many of which are new officers completing their training or are veterans of active engagements seeking respite in its relative isolation. This has earned the ship a reputation as an easy assignment and several unflattering nicknames including McNeil Daycare and Desert Island. The opinions of the Crew would no doubt change should it be discovered that they are not watching over a regular penitentiary, but a classified prison containing some of the most dangerous criminals known to Liberty, the Attica Supermax.
