Biography
No one knows Topper's real name. He was found by a passing IMG freighter when just an infant, the only occupant of an escape pod with the ship name "Topper" on it, in Tau-23. He was taken to Falkland Base in Tau-37, where he was raised by the rough-and-ready IMG miners, until moving to Freeport 10 for higher schooling. It was there he met and married Marie Claire, of an old Zoner Family. When Marie was pregnant with their first child, she took ship to Gran Canaria to have the baby amongst her friends and family (Topper was on a trading mission to Kusari and was to follow her a few weeks later.) Marie's ship, the "Curzon Flyer", was ambushed by Outcasts in Tau-23 and totally destroyed with no survivors. Topper joined the IMG Guard and for 20 years fought Outcasts, destroying over 8000 oc ships in his career. He retired from the Guard with the rank of Captain, and became a mercenary for several years, usually taking missions against outcasts. During one such mission he saw the planet Gran Canaria for the first time, and determined to settle there. Using his Guard pension and bounties from his years as a mercenary, Topper founded his own small trading company, and eventually joined his friends John Chrichton and Werner Mazursky to found the Zoners Consortium, where he serves as the company's Chief Technical Officer.
