Pilots are commodity items of sorts that can not be bought from any base. All player destroyed (NPC only?) ships drop a pilot, which can be tractored in left there to freeze to death. Pilots can be grouped into pirates, authority, civilian, others and capital ship pilots. Generally factions pay well for their own pilots but their enemies will pay better. Carrying lawful pilots in holds is a offense in (all?) houses. Also NPC bounty hunters are interested in pirate pilots and demand their drop.
Pirate Pilots
All pirate spaceships are equipped with standard eject mechanisms. When pirate loses a fight, the pilot automatically ejects right before ship explosion. Then winner might pick up the unlucky foe - or let him or her die in open space. Pirates will pay good money to get their captured brethren back, but bounty hunters may pay even more.
Pirate Pilot
Low level pirate NPCs (light fighters usually) eject these when destroyed. This item is generic in all pirating factions.
Red Hessian Pilot
Anyone who returns Red Hessian pilots to a Hessian base is well compensated. But Bounty Hunters, Corsairs and Rheinland authorities pay even more to get their hand on any Hessian pilot.

Attention! Every pilot who finds an eject pod of a police ship must tractor it and bring to the nearest police or military base. Pilots who refuse to give out police pilots when scanned will be treated as criminals
Bounty Hunter Pilot
Criminals hate police and navy, but hate Bounty Hunters even more. Pirate bases always offer good rewards for captured hunters. Tortures and most painful death await them.
