A small planet which is yet classified as a "gas giant", Montdidier is located within the Nouvion Nebula. The nearby Burgundy jump gate is one of the few, if not the only, jump gates built in the stationary orbit of a planet. The name of the planetoid is derived from a community in the Somme department of the ancient France, a place where settlements existed since pre-Roman times. The name is derived from Desiderius (Didier in French), the last king of Lombard who was imprisoned by Charlemagne in 774 A.D.
