Background

The rumoured birthplace of Marco Cabulb, Freeport 10.

Marco Cabulb was born in 786 A.S. into a Zoner family somewhere in the Edge Worlds. Little is known about the origins of Felix’s Zoner family except for the fact that they had an age old tradition of space exploration. Marco’s birth place is most likely onboard the generation ship AngelWing. However, evidence on his birth certificate has shown that he was brought into the world on a Freeport.

Early Life and Education

Marco Cabulb has lived onboard the AngelWing most of his early life, where he was raised by the Cabulb family. Effectively utilising the Neural Net, Marco was home schooled by his parents on standard colonial curriculum as well as various members of the crew taught him essential skills which will prove to be useful in his adult life. In addition, he was heavily influenced by the passion for exploration of the Cabulbs and from was often encouraged to learn the ways of an explorer. Despite the fact that he does not possess an official diploma from any recognised educational establishments in the houses, some speculate that through real life experience and extensive self teaching Marco has achieved what would be the equivalent of a PhD in Astronomy.

Command of the AngelWing

Tragedy struck the AngelWing recently as Marco’s father, also the captain of the ship, has died of old age in 796 A.S. As the eldest son, Marco was chosen to inherit his father’s Corvo class exploration cruiser and to continue her legacy as well as the family’s ambition to explore uncharted space. Unfortunately, Marco’s father’s dream was shattered as upon the old captain’s death, the crew of The AngelWing was scattered. All that was left was a few automated drones and a tattered, ancient ship. In this difficult situation, Marco exhausted nearly all of his contacts all over the Sirius sector and finally recruited a small crew composed mainly of his close relatives and best friends.

The Zoners Trading Consortium

Although the ideals and goals of Marco remained the same as the previous captain, weeks and sometimes even months of constant isolation from the rest of the Sirius has taken its toll on The AngelWing's new crew. Frustration began to emerge from the bored crew while Marco demanded devotion to charting stars and only stopped to resupply and exchange goods in distant outposts. Tension grew as time went on and eventually escalated into a possible mutiny. Realising that the new crew is not so dedicated to exploration compared to his father's crew, Marco settled with a compromise.

The decision was made for The AngelWing and her crew to join the Zoners Trading Consortium, a respectable Zoner corporation emphasising on freedom of trade and deep space exploration.

The crew was thrilled, but Marco knows that he must sacrifice some freedoms and submit to authority as he signed the contract with Johann Boll, one of The Consortium's leaders. On the contrary to Marco's initial impression, the faction did not demand monietary tributes or place restrictive rules on The AngelWing. All they wanted was a promise, promise to defend fellow Zoners and their allies and repelling unknown threats to the Sirius. None of which Marco would refuse.

It was not long before Marco tasted the sweet advantages of being in an organised group. Access to valuable information was granted, more allies were made. Those of which would prove to be vital aids in his continuous pursuit of knowledge in the Edge Worlds as Marco Cabulb is now employed by the Zoners Trading Consortium as a pioneer and the leader of the organisation’s Department of Science & Research where he continues to make contributions towards the consortium’s knowledge of chartered regions of space as well as unknown expanses.

The Omicroners

As the Zoners Trading Consortium had undergone some turbulent diplomatic changes, so had Marco's career with them. Marco remained loyal to the Consortium throughout the years right until the Corsair/Zoner in 816 A.S. conflict which inevitably concluded with dissolution of various Zoner groups, including the Consortium.

The close group which Marco worked with was shattered his former colleagues went their separate ways and Marco was left with unfinished research and the inability to continue them due to lack of a funding organisation. Fortunately, a small remaining group of what was left of the Consortium had the ambition to continue its legacy and to restore its former glory. Naturally, the group approached one of the best researchers and explorers from the Consortium and Marco gladly accepted their generous offer.

Marco's responsibilities remain unchanged with this new group which is now known as The Omicroners, one of the remaining Zoner groups which strives to restore stability and bring forth prosperity to the Omicrons, following the legacy of its origins.

Personal Life

One of Marco Cabulb's tactical simulations

Until the destruction of the AngelWing, Marco Cabulb has lived onboard his ship which he called home for most of his life. He has a wide range of hobbies, including space combat simulations, computer programming and water polo. However, after the destruction of the AngelWing in combat during an operation with the consortium, Marco and his crew were forced to reside on Lividia Shipyards in Omicron 74 while the construction of a replacement began soon after. Upon the completion of the Pegasus, the successor to the AngelWing, Marco has found a new ship to call home. Although the Pegasus appears to be identical to the unfortunate AngelWing in everyway and superior in some, Marco still holds memories of the AngelWing, a part of his life which was ruthlessly taken away.

Personality

Marco Cabulb is a natural leader. This is evident through his resourcefulness, courage and patience. These qualities, though not normally apparent, often emerges at times of dire crisis. Marco is usually a diplomat, a valuable quality passed down from his father, as he believes that violence can only complicate and escalate matters in a situation. His caring and non intrusive nature ensures the loyalty of his fellow crew.
