Jose Benitez is Commandante of the Benitez Familia, elected in 818 A.S. following the retirement of Don Carlos Benitez.
Bio Summary
The early life of Jose Benitez remains unclear. However, Corsair personnel files note that Jose served as a crewman on-board the Battleship Talos D following its maiden voyage in 797 A.S., first as a communications officer, and later as a bridge-commander under Don Rivas Benitez. Jose was present on-board the Talos during the coup of 800 A.S., and was subsequently made one of the new Don Carlos' highest ranking lieutenants. Given Jose's maintenance of his position through the coup of 800 A.S. and his subsequent meteoric rise, it has been suggested that he was, in fact, an agent of Carlos' revolutionary faction operating within Rivas' crew at the time of the takeover, and instrumental in sabotaging the Talos during the siege which lead to it.
Eventually obtaining the role of Consul, Jose was instrumental in supporting the leadership of Don Carlos' through the turbulent Civil War which followed his rise to power, and following it's settlement took a seat on the Council of Elders. A frequent check on the excesses of Don Carlos' rule, Jose continued as the Don's most trusted advisor, and became his successor in 818 A.S., taking on the role of Commandante.
Commandante Jose Benitez commands fierce loyalty from his operatives, and his careful and considered leadership has lead the familia to many triumphs in recent times, expanding Benitez influence further into Bretonia, the Independent systems and Liberty. Having survived countless house-sponsored assassination attempts, house security forces maintain significant interest in eliminating or capturing this individual, who's bounty is rumoured to be significant.
