Petra is a small, hastily-built Corsair depot hidden deep within the dense Wattensee Cloud. The initial Corsair visitors to the system approached it from the Northern Sigma clusters as they searched for another flank to continue their war of conquest and opportunity against Rheinland. Initially reinforced by the Hogosha and Farmers Alliance from their rear, the raiders found themselves immediately bogged down by an unusually rampant Bundschuh presence in the system.
While enough construction ships managed to establish this beachhead in a secure location of the nebula, the entire cloud is far from uncontested. The Corsairs of Sigma-15 found themselves between a metaphorical rock and a hard place; the nearest reinforcements were from Sigma-17 and nearly every other group contesting the system considered Corsairs an invading priority target.
Left with no other alternative and unwilling to lose any of the ground they gained, the Petra Corsairs dug in their heels and prepared for a prolonged siege, hoping that their experience gained at Omega-5's Hammen Hole would alleviate critical shortages in manpower, medical supplies, and local allies.
