Binissalem was once a huge gas giant orbiting the Marratxi star. Over two billion years ago, after Marratxi went nova, most of its atmosphere was lost and drifted away into interstellar space. Part of the atmospheric gases, along with gases that once comprised the nearby star's atmosphere, later accumulated around the planet's core, forming a thin secondary atmosphere that is still present around Binissalem. The planet could provide a great opportunity for astronomers to directly study a gas giant's core if Lambda was not located so far away from House worlds and if it was accessible to civilian researchers. Neither is the case, and Lambda is controlled by the Corsairs who shoot unauthorised intruders on sight.
