Sol Coalition

During the War of Sol, two blocs fought for complete control over the Sol System: the Alliance and the Coalition. The Coalition was composed of the communist nations of Russia, China, and the Middle East. For decades, there was nonstop fighting between the two factions without either side gaining the upper hand for long.

In 2160, the Alliance signed a proposed a peace treaty between the two blocs, but as the Coalition admiral headed to Europa, one of Jupiter's moons, to sign it, he ordered a Coalition fleet to de-cloak and attack the Alliance fleet, who had stood down from battle after hearing about the treaty. Instead of ending the war peacefully, they destroyed the French and Italian Alliance fleets and took control of all the inner planets, including Earth. This surprise attack was what gave the Coalition the upper hand to start winning the war.

Shortly after the Exodus of the Five Sleeper Ships, the Coalition arrived at Pluto, the last stronghold of the Alliance. As the two prepared for one last battle, a Nomad superweapon arrived and destroyed the Sol System and destroyed all traces of humanity. Although the Coalition won the war, their quest for power was what ultimately destroyed the Sol System. Instead of seeking peace like the Alliance, they continued to fight, which caused the Nomads, who had been watching humanity, to judge them as unworthy to live.
