Born on Planet Denver in the Colorado system in 783 (A.S), Michael Buccalleto was but an average kid. He attended school, and even had big plans to join the academy and become an officer. He was a very educated student, always on time and always eager to learn, until 800 (A.S.) when the Nomad Wars started. He was pulled out of school before he had the chance to join the academy. Buccalleto and his family moved just when he was seventeen, to the New York system. Where they thought they would be safer from the every moving force of the nomads. They began their life again on Planet Manhattan, but Buccalleto’s life was all ready over. Angry and frustrated at his parents for pulling him out of his schooling and ruining the plans he had to go into the academy, he became violent. Forced to find a job to support his family’s new life, there were none. The war had left the job market demolished. Companies had been completely destroyed from nomad raids, and the unemployment rate was soaring. He managed to pickup a job in the low levels of Manhattan, the slums, were he got a job in a small meat shop, next to a bar. He got to know all the local gangsters and crime bosses, even got on a first name basis with them, but their was a certain one in particular that had begun to think of him as a son. Tommy Venice, a regular customer and gangster. He owned the bar next door and anyways came in when it was time to collect the meat shops “Dues”. He took Buccalleto in, and helped him earn a little extra money to support his family. Then one day, there was a terrible fire. It spread through the low levels wildly. His family, all staying in one apartment, had no chance, a thousand feet up in the air, they had no where to go. The entire building burned down. Killing everyone in it, but that was just another day in the lower levels. The cause of the fire was never found, although it was believed to have been mob related. Buccalleto, now alone turned to Tommy Venice the only real friend he had. Venice took him in, showed him the ropes and his empire that he had built from the ground up. Buccalleto helped him run rackets out of local diners, and collect dues from local businesses. He had grown into one of Tommy Venice’s right hand men, a made man. By age 24 he had killed more people then a navy officer had in a life time. He had even witnessed Tommy Venice’s death, when he was on his way out of a local store; he was shot by several men with guns that thought he was stealing their shares of money. With Venice gone, it opened a huge power struggle between the local gangsters, a gap that Buccalleto was eager to fill. He began recruiting his hand picked men, mostly men he knew from Venice’s gang. They began with small time robberies, and kidnapping, eventually moving up extorting local businesses. But even with their constant growth they were still among the bottom of the food chain. Then, they started selling drugs, with the Cardamine on the streets they began rising in the ranks, and hiring more muscle. One by one they began killing off the competition. Buccalleto even earned the nickname “The Butcher” famous for his cruelty to leave those who opposed him, limbless. Some say this tactic might have had something to do with his childhood experiences. By the end of 813 (A.S.), Buccalleto had become Don of his own family in liberty. He began to buy influence into the government, and worked his plans for expanding his crime family into space what they considered the “New Frontier”. At the end of 814 (A.S.) they had brought their major crime family into space, now known as the Liberty Mafia they had become the largest crime family off of Manhattan. With their new growth they started to receive attention from the local authorities. By 815 (A.S.) the Liberty Government had declared a “War on Crime”. The local authorities began raiding their racket houses, and setting up ambushes when they collected their extortion fees. Facing hard time and almost certain capture Don Buccalleto was forced to flee to the Border Worlds. He was believed to have been shot down and burned up in the atmosphere, a simple attempt to misinform. Buccalleto and what was left of the crime family fled to Omicron Alpha were they sought refuge with the Outcasts. Slowly they began to rebuild their empire again, working their informants deep into the government were no one had gone before. By 817 (A.S.) the family had been rebuilt, more powerful then ever before, under Don Buccalleto they moved once again out to space. Using their new found friendship with the Outcasts they considered themselves brothers. They began to smuggle and sell the Outcast narcotics known as Cardamine in return for profit, and move their base of operations out of Alpha. Currently today their base of operations has yet to be found. There are rumors that there is a massive station somewhere out in the dark corner of space where they package the Cardamine and prepare it for transportation. The station is entirely rumored and most probably fictional, but the story of the station has been come to be known as “Cancello”. The crime family took on the new name of Sirius Cartel. Little else is known about Don Buccalleto today as he has not been seen or captured to date. He has only been seen to attend occasionally business meetings, where they usually end with someone dead. His orders are passed down to his men and chain of command making it almost impossible to trace his location. The Cartel continues to operate as ghosts in Sirius to this very day.
