Perhaps the oldest base in Vespucci, Atacama was abandoned by the Lane Hackers in favor of newer bases constructed jointly with the Hellfire Legion. When the Legion ousted the Lane Hackers from Vespucci, Atacama was all but forgotten by the oldest veterans of the Legion who prided themselves on knowing their home system inside and out.
When the Commonwealth was formed, corporations such as Orbital Spa and Cruise and Deep Space Engineering were invited into Vespucci to exploit its resources, causing a minor insurgency took place within the Legion. These disgruntled Legionnaires repressurized Atacama and reached out to the Gaian movement, who now inhabit Atacama and use it to great effect against their newfound enemy.
