Kirkwall is a secret Outcast installation built in 805 A.S. inside a large asteroid field. While Orkney system is not a part of any Cardamine routes, and is not within the scope of Outcasts' economical interests, Dons of Malta consider it worthy to maintain a presence not too far from a mysterious mine field that is very similar to one located in Outcasts' own Omicron-80 system. Events that happened in 817 A.S. showed that this precaution was a far-sighted one, and now the Outcasts are considering Kirkwall as a valuable base of operations that will allow to venture into the hostile space of Gallia.
