BH - Bounty Hunter(s)

BHG - Bounty Hunters Guild, a player created faction.

BS - Battleship

BLS - Blue Lotus Syndicate, an Outcast player created faction based at the Omicron Alpha System.

CD - Cruise Disruptor

Char(s) - Character(s)

CM - Countermeasures

Coded weapons - Usually very strong or otherwise special weapons which can only be looted from the permanent wrecks or bought from player weapon traders. Also: "Codies", "Codenames".

Disco - Discovery Mod

Disco forums - The official community forum to the Discovery Mod, found at discovertgc.com.

E

EK - Engine Kill. A method used to preserve the kinetic energy to mimic Newtonian law. That means that the ship will continue to fly on it's vector (i.e. direction) when engine was killed.

F

F1 - Deliberate disconnecting from the server to avoid being pirated, shot or otherwise avoiding RP responsibilities. Against the Discovery server rules.

FL - Freelancer (the game)

form - Short for "enter formation"

FP - Freeport

FR/Fr - Freighter

GB - Gunboat

GC - Golden Chrysanthemums

HF - Heavy fighter

IC - Short for "in character". See also OOC. Also can stand for Interspace Commerce faction.

ID - Identification card. Identifies player's inclination/faction.

Indie(s), Independent(s) - Players who carry out acts according to a role they play without belonging to a official faction, i.e. carrying a "Police" ID and scanning for contraband without being member of one of the Player Factions.

JG - Jump gate connecting two systems.

JH - Jump hole connecting two systems.

KNF - Kusari Naval Forces (player faction)

KoS - Kill on sight

L

LF - Light fighter self-explanatory. Also see: Flimsy

LH - Lane Hackers Computer nuts, these fellas will hack just about anything.

LPI - Liberty Police Incorporated A group of donut munching nutcases. Detectives are dangerous though.

LR - Liberty Rogues Equivalent to the LPI in ineptitude, only unlawful

NB, nanos - Nanobots, items used to repair hull damage. Can also mean the New Berlin System

NL - New London System

NPC - Non Player Character, i.e. a ship controlled by the game's AI.

NT - New Tokyo System

NY - New York System


O

OC - Outcast Drug addicted pirate nutsos. Known to fly a really dangerous ship, the Sabre.

OOC - Out Of Character. Expressing oneself in a manner not suitable for roleplay on the server. Should be avoided if not necessary. The commonly used notation for something which is OOC is "//" (//Please do not reengage). OORP, Out Of RolePlay, is also a term used for this.

P

PC - Player Character, i.e. your or another player's ship.

PvP - Player versus player combat.

Rep - Reputation. Indicates the attitude towards the other factions. Scales from hostile to neutral to friendly.

Rep fixing - Changing oneself's reputation toward a NPC faction to fit one's character concept or to get a certain tag.

RP - Roleplay. Acting and conducting oneself in a manner that fits the player's current status and his factions modus operandi.

S

Shield camping - trying to dodge when you lose shields in a battle so you don't lose your hull. Once you get your shield back, you continue with the attack. It is considered 'unfair' by some, but is in fact a legal and commonly used strategy.

Shieldrunning - Shieldrunning is when a ship cruises away to recharge shields, then reengages with his shield and hull at full strength. Against the Discovery server rules.

The Angels - Discovery Angels Organization, a player created faction helping new players. Can be usually found in the New York system.
