Laval Shipyard was built in 578 A.G.S. by EFL Oil and Machinery, on the site of an old mining facility. It was one of the first stations built in order to restore the economy of the Maine system, and the government granted EFL huge subsidies and tax breaks in order to make the facility profitable. Moreover, the Trade Lane from Mayenne was fully financed by the government. EFL enjoyed these benefits for over a hundred years, when it was long evident that Maine's space stations were in no way threatened by the Normandy Separatists. Growing public outrage over this fact forced EFL to go through several troublesome corruption hearings in the Estates-General and funding was cancelled circa 680 A.G.S., but by that time Laval was already one of the largest facilities for producing civilian ships in Gallia. The Royal Navy also uses the yard to construct supply ships and assemble certain hull parts for larger military craft.
