La Ferte-Bernard is a defensive outpost built in Maine next to the Ile-de-France Jump Gate in 570 A.G.S. . At that time, the increase of border activity in Normandy caused some of the Navy's analysts to predict that the separatists were planning another attack against Gallia. No such attack ever took place, but the Navy implemented serious security measures which included the creation of a second defensive line between Maine and Ile-de-France. Since then, La Ferte-Bernard has become the drop-off point for many of the Navy and police patrols in the system, with the Royal Police's presence gradually increasing. Currently, the defensive significance of La Ferte-Bernard is in doubt, and the Royal Navy plans to transfer the facility to the Royal Police or sell it to one of the Gallic corporations. However, neither the police nor the corporations have shown any interest in acquiring an outpost which is rather expensive to operate. As a result Ferte-Bernard could end up being scrapped within the next ten to twenty years.
