Following the destruction of their colony on Planet Cork, many surviving colonists fled to the orbiting Colerain Base, one of the larger orbital facilities. Colerain was not outfitted to maintain so many refugee's, so the station had to be hastily expanded. Even so, Colerain was not designed to handle a large population indefinitely.

A larger civilian station had to be created to accommodate many of the families of the Molly Fighters. The station was named Kilrea, after Shamus Kilrea, the man who helped to evacuate thousands of Refugees from Cork's surface just before the orbital bombardment commenced. Kilrea Station orbits the now desolate Planet Cork. To date, it houses a large portion of the Mollys and their families and offers a safe smuggler haven far from the prying eyes of law enforcement.
