The Battleship Kokura is one of a handful of venerable Togo class battleships the Blood Dragons escaped with following the bloody Samura coup of 321 A.S.. The small fleet was largely sequestered away in the clouds of the Crow Nebula, with the Dragons slowly reactivating the fearsome relics over the ensuing centuries as resources became available. Originally produced in the long-dismantled Shogunate shipyards of Tohoku, the Kokura found a new home in Mito Shipyard circa 600 A.S., where it was the first Togo class battleship to be reactivated, restored and modernised. The battleships are only ever utilised for the most pressing of purposes and are so scarcely seen outside of Chugoku that many Naval officers deride them as nothing more than mere myths.

That such an irreplaceable and vital element of Chugoku's defence fleet was deployed to the Nagano system in 822 A.S. speaks volumes about the strategic value placed upon the conflict by Shogunate forces. The Kokura currently acts as a mobile support carrier for Blood Dragon forces staging attacks on Planet Tomioka. The Dragons' current strategy depends heavily on the current Republican government being occupied with the Imperial attack on Kyushu and the recalcitrant GMG in the Sigmas and thus unable to fully support Samura's private paramilitary forces in the remote and isolated planet's defence. Should this gamble pay off, the Kokura is primed to play a more direct role in firing on terrestrial targets in order to force a prompt surrender.
