For a good example of a full page using the proper formatting please see the Burgundy System article. Keep in mind that you dont have to complete an entire page once you start, but please attempt to fill out atleast the template when creating a new system page.

Page Titles

That are a number of systems that have the same name as their main planet. E.g. (Planet New Tokyo in the New Tokyo system.) To distinguish the planets and systems separately, please use "New Tokyo" as a title for the system and "Planet New Tokyo" for the planet. This will allow consistency for the systems that have no planets named the same as their system: e.g Omega-41, Sigma-13.

Please leave in the hyphen for Sigma, Tau, Omicron, Omega system titles.

In Text References to Systems

When referring to the system in page text please add a generic lowercase-letters "system" or using other forms of reference such as:

This will keep things clear when referencing to the Planet or to the system.

Template

A new template has been developed to start all system pages. Please see Template:System for all the details on it and it's usage.

Description

Some systems have either declared themselves or have been declared by others to be Independent Systems, often bordering one or more house territories. Magellan and Kepler are prime examples of this. Use the appropriate description for the basic system descriptions.

A political and physical body of Bretonia. It comprises of the following planets, bases, corporations, lawfuls and unlawfuls.

A political and physical body declared Independent. It comprises of the following planets, bases, corporations, lawfuls and unlawfuls.

 • Kusari
 • Bretonia
 • Rheinland
 • Liberty
 • the Outcasts
 • the Corsairs

Headings

Here are some suggested headings for the system.

 • Areas of Interest - Generally a description of all the Nebulae, asteroid field and debris fields in the system. Be sure to include mining information. May also include undockable structures, such as the nomad structure in Newcastle.
 • Notable Events - Events of noteworthiness

Categories

The categories for this part should include at least the first one. Include any other relevant one. Please remember to add these categories to the base of the page.

Moons

In order to accomodate the existance -- and documentation of such existance -- of moons in Systems (such as Maine in New York), I suggest we change the section titled Planets to Planets and Moons. I think, at least, that would be more correct than simply grouping moons with planets, even if for practical purposes there is no difference between them. I am saying this here rather than changing this myself since I believe that this template is being worked on by some people, and I don't want to interfere with their efforts. -- Eyvind (Talk) 01:08, 15 July 2009 (MDT)

I do see why you suggest this, and I admit it's been bothering me a bit too. These two differences are what I was attempting to include in the first system templates with the variable "|systemstuff =". Tazuras rightly pointed out that that variablename is too ambiguous and we then changed the variable to "|settledplanets = xyz" and "nonsettled planets".
What I'd like to do now to address this issue is make a separate inclusion template that works the same way as Planet, so that all we need to do is Maine. Obviously we can easily change the section heading to "Celestial Bodies" or "Planets and Moons". Changing the section headings is not a prob.
Some concerns I have with this method:
 • Are we going to have articles named Moon Maine, or just Maine, or something else? At the moment they are lumped in with the planets and the articles on such objects are named as Planet Maine. I believe this is misleading.
 • I think this shows a flaw, or potential problem in the Planet template. Tazuras also rightly pointed out that image links would be better to be manual, and in my haste I overrode him and told him to eat pie. This is a similar issue I think. Would the Article Links be better as manual or set through the template?

Automatic Article Links
Having the article links automatically set by the template can be a good thing in that it forces all wiki editors to a "same naming convention" set by the template. However it may also teach them bad wiki habits in not finding the info themselves, and also teaches them to lean on the templates to do their work. Auto links may also introduce inconsistency problems if the template ever changes.
Automatic links currently look like this:

Manhattan

This links to the article Planet Manhattan

Manual Article Links
Manual links obviously are easier to fix or work with when you don't know how the articles are already named. I believe coming up with a Moon naming convention now will fix this issue for the template usage, but it can also lead to different methods of article naming. Some people don't even want to include them in the wiki, quoted as "inconsequential" but I would like to have them on the wiki in any case. They might be low on the priority but I still consider them to qualify for a wiki entry.
Manual links would look like this:

Planet Manhattan

This links to the article Planet Manhattan

I am undecided on which way to go, so I need you guys to do some think tanks for it and push me in the right direction.
