Sleeper Ship
'Sleeper Ship' was the name given to the design of the vessel that carried the original human colonists to Sirius from Sol. These large vessels were named as such as they were specifically designed to carry thousands, if not millions, of Alliance humans from Sol to Sirius, whilst they were all in cryopods asleep. The cryopods were necessary due to the huge distance to the Sirius sector and the relative slow rate at which the vessels could traverse it. Without them, the inhabitants would either die or would no longer be viable for re-population by the time they reached the Sirius sector.
There were 5 great vessels of this type that were launched from Pluto in the Alliance's last ditch attempt at denying the Coalition victory. They are presumed to be named in reference to the countries that were in the Alliance but this has not been confirmed.
The Hispania was unfortunately sabotaged by Coalition spies before it could reach Sirius. The resulting damage done to the ship stoked tensions within the vessel and a split formed. One group left the Sleeper Ship soon after it arrived in Sirius, landing on Crete, and went on to become the Corsairs. The other group stayed on the vessel and eventually ended up landing on Malta and went on to become the Outcasts. This event could be seen to be the root cause of the bitter hatred that the two groups feel towards one another. Yet they came from the same backgrounds and were once united it would seem.
The Kusari mostly held Japanese refugees. The ship was stripped to use as material to build a colony.
Today there are only two Sleeper Ships that are easy to find. One is the Hispania which drifts as a wreck in the Omicron Alpha system and the other is the Liberty, which can be seen on the planet Manhattan.
