Syd was an unnamed character within Freelancer. He survived the destruction of Freeport 7, but was later hunted down by Liberty Officials and shot. He was the character who handed over the alien artifact to Trent, and triggered Trent and Jun'ko Zane's mission to find Quintane.
Speculation
There is speculation that his character model was originally planned for someone possessed by a Nomad. As beta footage screens show him wielding a fist of purple light.
