Clermont was built in 549 [[A.G.S.]] in the orbit of [[Planet Montferrand]]. It was initially a temporary installation that would house workers employed on other construction sites, including [[Riom Shipyard|Riom]]. As years went by, the station was expanded with new modules and grew into a large compound base that was classified as a Space Colony. Its population capacity rose from 250 in 550 A.G.S. to over 1000 in 680 A.G.S. . The original modules of the station are still operational, but they are in poor condition. As a result Clermont has some of the cheapest living quarters Gallia has to offer for those who prefer living in space to dwelling planetside. The more recent additions to Clermont have far more comfortable living conditions. The inhabitants of the station are mostly employed in the light industries on Clermont or elsewhere in the system.

The Auvergne system is one of the few human-developed systems in Gallia completely devoid of habitable planets. None of the planets present in the system were found suitable for colonization, not even for a mining colony. Most of the system's economy is concentrated around two large space colonies: Clermont and Montlucon. Auvergne is also the least populated of the Southern Borderworld systems with a population of no more than 7,000.

Clermont was built in 549 A.G.S. in the orbit of Planet Montferrand. It was initially a temporary installation that would house workers employed on other construction sites, including Riom.
