The planet Guadalajara is the sole habitable world of the Vespucci system, home of the Commonwealth of House Liberty, a separatist government formed by the Hellfire Legion in 822 A.S. With its surface covered by a mixture of arid deserts, wet jungles, frigid mountain ranges, and deep oceans the planet is a rare occurrence in the Sirius sector with its wide variety of biomes. However, this great variety brings severe extremes of weather and temperature, a price worth paying in exchange for a habitable planet with appreciable resources.
Regardless of the meteorological extremes, the Commonwealth has begun to undertake a rather limited terraforming process to make larger portions of the planet's surface habitable. In the more mediterranean and temperate regions, several civilian settlements and military installations are being constructed around the capital of the Commonwealth, known as Hykarsis. Several strip mining operations have also begun in the frozen mountain ranges of the planet's northernmost continent, much to the chagrin of many more eco-minded Legionnaires, sparking some sympathy for the encroaching Gaian movement who have proven to be a growing thorn in the Legion's side due to their exploitation of Guadalajara.
Following the construction of the planet's docking ring in 823 AS, development of Guadalajara has begun in full swing, and many of Liberty's corporations have been invited to test the waters, with the Commonwealth extending charters to Orbital Spa & Cruise for seasonal resorts at the planet's more hospitable locales. DSE has also been invited to survey Guadalajara's natural resources, though they have been reluctant in doing so, considering the complex political dynamic between the Commonwealth and the Republic.
A recent census of the Commonwealth placed Guadalajara's population at somewhere just below 125,000 people, with a large portion comprised of refugees that have fled the many war fronts across Sirius. While the planet conceals a moderate amount of valuable mineral deposits, a larger portion of the planet's economy is centered around aquaculture, and at the right time of year, agriculture as well. The primary exports from the Commonwealth's capital planet are high quality leather and luxury foods, with more militarily relevant materials being shipped off to Legion bases in the system for processing.
