Wedel is a Unioner base in Hamburg. Originally a Kruger mining facility, it was abandoned by its workers in an act of defiance during early 670 A.S. when the political and economic implications in Rheinland were affecting Kruger directly, after the catastrophic defeat of the Rheinland Military in the Battle of the Yanagi Nebula in Sigma-13. The facility was eventually struck from the books by the company, with the reason quoted as "insufficient profit capabilities". A reactivation process was planned for the future, but prospectors confirmed what was mostly obvious about the Alster asteroid field: it was nearly depleted of minerals. The plans for renovation were then canceled.

Still capable of operation (but dismissed as wreckage) it was passively inhabited by squatters for the next ninety years, until eventually claimed by a large party of Unioners in 760 A.S. Since then, Wedel acts as a focal point for resupply, smuggling and even raiding operations in Hamburg and New Berlin. Relatively well hidden in the rocks of the Alsterfeld, it is a vital base to Unioner operations all across Rheinland.
