The Dunlin, a ship of supposedly Junker origin, is based on an incomplete set of blueprints loosely followed by few independent ship builders. The internal structure of these vessels often vary from builder to builder and are generally improvised from any materials and components available in the region, whether handmade, salvaged, or "borrowed". It is not uncommon for these vessels to be refurbished and refitted with different internals and reused multiple times rather than being discarded due to wear and tear.
With its self-sufficient design and its durability and versatility as a deep space exploration vessel, the ship quickly earned the nickname of "Poor Man's Corvo". Despite lacking the research capabilities or safety standards of its Zoner-built counterpart, most Dunlins can be retrofitted with a docking bay to allow for servicing smaller vessels, or with basic mining and processing equipment enabling extraction of essential materials and fuel from natural sources on longer-range expeditions.
