History

Ichiro was born on Planet Junyo in 727, merely a hundred years after its major fishing industry began. The combination of Samura's success and Kusari's long held pride led him to enlist in the Naval Forces as soon as he was able (plus, fishing isn't much fun for the excitable, youthful type). Things started off well - he quickly learned how to pilot his Drake; They soon turned, sour, unfortunately. Approximately six months into his service, a fellow Drake flying alongside him lost control and crashed into the side of Ichiro's ship. As they were on a routine patrol near Kyushu at the time, Ichiro, his ship's controls damaged by the crash, plunged into the atmosphere. He awoke later in the hospital, learning that his right foot had to be amputated. This last bit also led to a medical discharge.

There were some positives from all of this. The other pilot, feeling guilty, called in some favors and got Ichiro a job with Samura. He worked his way up the corporate ladder, beginning as an assistant pilot on a Drone and ending up in command of a Ryuujin class Kusari Train, the Kunashir. Throughout his travels with Samura, he put roots down in several places: On Kurile, where he was often assigned shipments; On Junyo, where had grown up; On the Hawaii, where he found a good deal of relaxation; And, finally, on Kyushu, where he chose to settle his family.

Unfortunately, all was not well with his family life. After settling on Kyushu, marrying, and having a son, tragedy struck in the form of a vicious attack. Ichiro had brought his wife along on a mission to the Taus for Samura. When they arrived, the convoy was ambushed by Outcast. His wife, Izumi, was injured in this event and later died from her wounds. Ichiro managed to survive, but he blamed himself and, increasingly, the Outcasts for this.

On the bright side, his son, who was serving in the Naval Forces, was married shortly after this event. This brought some joy to Ichiro's life. It increased even more when his first grandson, Junichiro, was born. This continued when his granddaughter, Miharu, was born four years later. Of course, things change, and this was no different. Izumi contracted the Sprague Plague and died from complications in 813, and Junichiro followed two years later in the war against Bretonia. This, combined with Miharu's apparent embracing of the Golden Chrysanthemum's ideals, was too much for Ichiro. He finally resigned from Samura in 817 (after nearly 70 years of service) and began to try and fix Kusari by joining the Farmers Alliance. While originally neither a farmer nor a Kyushan, their goals to straighten out Kusari hit home with him.

After a year working for the AFA, Ichiro suffered a bout of depression and resigned his position. He spent several weeks alone at his home on Planet Kurile, until a fortuitous event occurred. Noticing that he was low on his favorite Stuttgart vegetables (which are delicious with Kyushan rice and Junyo fish), he took a quick trip to the Luxury Liner Hawaii, where he knew they would be available. Ichiro bumped into a young man who was very apologetic for the incident. Seeing his affiliation with the Hogosha and how upstanding a Kusari citizen the boy was, Ichiro decided to work alongside the Black Dragon Society to try to help Kusari as best he could.

In early 818, an interesting event took Ichiro by surprise. Previously he had thought his granddaughter, Miharu, all but dead, until he received a letter at his home on Planet Junyo. Upon reading it, he learned that Miharu had a change of heart, inspired by the pilot known as Ame-chan. While Ichiro did not fully approve of the antics of this Ame, he was very happy to hear his only granddaughter had come back to the proper side of Kusari. Knowing that things would not work out too well for her, Ichiro was able to put her in touch with the Ronin mercenaries, where he hopes she can bring some honor back to her name. Unfortunately this did not exactly work out.

Ichiro would rejoin Samura later that year. He was given the job of captaining the Saiun, a Geisha-class ship tasked with moving important Samura employees between various ports of call. This was a nice change for Ichiro, who got the opportunity to deal with so many notable people. He was also chosen to be Samura's Planetary Liaison for Planet Junyo. In addition to all of this, he found out that he grandson Junichiro, who had been missing and thought killed in action, was actually alive. Following the peace between Kusari and Bretonia, he had returned home to Junyo, which made Ichiro extra happy.
