While the Light Miner and Heavy Miner are designed for day to day operations within a few hours range of a dockable habitat, the Gallic Metal Service designed the DS Series Miner to be capable of functioning for several days without being resupplied. The ship is often sent on long range prospecting missions without accompaniment, but is also employed in short range mining work when stronger mining lasers are needed to cut through denser materials. Along with more substantial life support equipment, and a larger cargo hold for collecting samples, the ship is both more heavily armed and armored than lighter GMS designs, so that it can adequately defend itself from any hostilities.
GMS ships are designed and built under contract with EFL Oil & Machinery shipyards, but they are also sold on the civilian market to small mining companies and entrepreneurial prospectors.

This ship is a really cool mining vessel. It looks almost like a big white titan, and that's almost what it is. It has a lot of hull, for a fighter, and is able to use bomber torpedos. With two of its turrets rear-firing, it's best used with the turret 7, or the one rotating middle turret, as a shield buster. I personally use all 3 turrets as shield busters, for taking an opponents shield down while fleeing, and then turning around to hose the opponent down with hull-killing guns and the possibility of a lucky torpedo shot. The bomber torpedo will give this mining ship a great advantage against larger ships, with the accuracy of fighter guns, and the power of a bomber. This ship will be a nasty surprise for any pirate who tries to hit your haulers while you're mining. If you plan to use this for its original intention, as a mining ship, it's up to you where you put your mining turret, depending on what's more important to you, efficiency in mining, or forward firepower. As far as handling goes, it's slower than your average VHF, but still pretty fast. Its only downside is 5 forward-firing guns. The Plier is the best Bomber in Gallia despite being a Super Heavy Fighter. Sporting 4 forward-facing guns and 3 360-coverage turrets, the ability to mount a Cap VII, Bomber hardware like SNACS and Novas, and an askew frame (seriously, the center of the ship from the front is a thin strip), one can pose a credible threats to ships several times their weight class whilst still packing enough of a punch to handle snubs. Consider the SNAC placenent. They are literally above and below the cockpit. With the same energy regen as the Eclipse, more bots and bats, a faster cruise speed, and more cargo to carry the spoils, it is hard to be disappointed in this little package's performance. Expect a great nerf to come to this ship in the future. In short, the Plier is a good utility ship that can carry its weight in any situation. Good hunting.
