There is a nice looking well working ship Infobox template that is being used. If you find a ship without the template or add a new ship, please format the ship page using the template. Copy and paste below into the top of your Ship page and fill out the fields. The Description of the ship goes directly under this Infobox.Example of complete Ship Page.

The shipclass parameter can be one of these choices:

  • L_FIGHTER -- For light fighters
  • H_FIGHTER -- For heavy fighters
  • VH_FIGHTER -- For very heavy fighters
  • SH_FIGHTER -- For super heavy fighters
  • BOMBER -- For bombers
  • GUNBOAT -- For gunboats
  • CRUISER -- For cruisers
  • BATTLESHIP -- For battleships
  • FREIGHTER -- For freighters
  • TRANSPORT -- For transports
  • LINER -- For liners

Images

Images of ships are to be uploaded in .png format. If you don't know how to do this, please ask someone to do it for you, or contact someone who can do it. Blodo and Cshake are two people who can. Image example specs:

To use an uploaded image simply write the name of the uploaded image into the template: e.g.

 |image = imagename.png

Ship images should show a clear, well lighted version of the ship with no background. Preferably they should be rendered using a rendering program outside the game engine. Most have already been rendered and posted on the Discovery Forums here.

Price and Ship Costs

There was found to be an awkward discrepancy between certain ship prices. To address this discrepancy we have followed this plan. On the main ship lists is the Full package price. That is the price you will usually pay for the ship. It includes the shield, the scanner and sometimes weapons. On the individual pages of the ships, you will see two price fields, one for the Hull only, and one for the complete package. The full price can be found by using Datastorm or going in game and taking screenshots. The Hull price is found in the ini files or on the main ship lists. We suggest you just copy and paste from the main list. Please make sure both fields are completed wherever possible.

Headings

Most ships do not need many headings. Here are some suggested ones.

  • Weapon Hardpoints - Describes in detail what type guns, turrets or weapons the ship has and how many.
  • Handling - Describes the maneuverability and way the ship moves through space. See Odin for a good informative handling example.
  • Availability - Shows where the ship is sold. Please use the Spoiler Template to automatically hide the availability lists. E.
  • Media - Used for any further pictures or other media of the ships, that are different to the ones in the Infobox. Odin currently has 3 pictures associated with it. First is the thumbnail - what you see when you first come to the Odin page. The thumbnail is generated automatically by Wiki when you upload an image. The second picture is the medium scale image that has been uploaded to the Discovery Mod Wiki. The third is a PNG file that has transparency. This image is not stored on the wiki in any way and is stored at an image hosting site - like Imageshack or Photobucket. This PNG file goes under the Media heading.

Categories

The ship infobox now automatically assignes a category to the ship based on the shipclass parametre. Additional categories that assign the ship to a particular line are recommended, such as:

Check list when updating ship pages

  • Make sure all stats are correct, FlStat V1.0 is recomended for everything except the full price. Use Datastorm for the full price. Do not use V.1.05 of FlStats for the hull prices since it give incorect prices.
  • Make sure the infocard of the ship is up to date.
  • Add all sales location following the new Spoiler template.
  • Add all the sections present on the Odin page, if you do not know what to add in the handling and the media sections, keep them empty, someone who has that information will fill them up. If someone have written an history section, do not modify or remove it. If a "Pictures" section is present, rename it to Media.
  • Add the category V485 at the bottom.
