Biography

Early Life

Victor was born to Vincent (b. 764 A.S.) and Marie Delacroix (b. 769 A.S.) on Ames Research Station. His parents were Lane Hackers, and had him left with a family friend on Los Angeles to keep him safe.

This didn't last. The friend did not approve of his parents' actions, and made it known regularly. He reacted poorly, running away from home and living on the streets. After a brief encounter with the police in regards to a vandalism charge, he found his way to the fences and criminals of Los Angeles in search of money. Over the next several years, he made a name for himself as a reliable courier and messenger, to the point that even smugglers from off-world would ask for him by name - by nickname, anyway; he was known as Little Crow at the time. The first lesson he learned was never to share your real name.

Eventually, he set his sights on a prize of his own - a Guardian-class assault fighter. He stole the ship from the launch pad during a traffic control shift change and flew off to Freeport 4, where he had it stripped for parts by the Rogues and Hackers on the station. The calling card he left bore a Penrose triangle and his new alias - Escher. His parents got back into contact with him, and he went into hiding briefly while helping them.

Vagrant Raiders

By 816 A.S., Delacroix had become a somewhat notorious figure in the underworld of Liberty. He was a man who knew things, and if he did not know them, he would by the end of the week. His Virage-class heavy scout, the Penrose Triangle, was a frequent sight at Junker bases and Freeports in and around the Republic of Liberty, and occasionally made its way to Leiden Base as well. In fact, he was capable enough that John Petrucci of the Vagrant Raiders recruited him personally to work as a Taskmaster.

Shortly after the Battle of Freeport 1 and Petrucci's disappearance, Escher vanished. Sightings were reported as far away as Planet Nuremberg, but no one was certain if it was actually him. Nothing was confirmed until Harold Kane returned to and reorganized the Vagrant Raiders, at which point he rejoined in his old role as the head of intelligence. His fighter, renamed Superstition, can occasionally be seen wherever he feels it needs to be.

Personality

Victor is known for wordiness and a hint of smugness in diplomacy, and for near-silence when not on business. He is a very pragmatic man, unmoved by ideology but willing to exploit that of others. He is also noted for his loyalty; though hard to earn, he will go to any lengths to protect or avenge those that he feels worthy of it. He is slightly paranoid, and always looking for a way out of a bad or potentially-bad situation.

Relationships

Harold Kane

Though he doesn't entirely believe in Kane's plans, Victor still considers him a friend and goes to considerable lengths to ensure that those plans succeed.

Kelly Combs

Kelly attempts to act as Victor's conscience. He finds this amusing. The two usually get along well, however, and rumors occasionally circulate about them getting along horizontally. There is, however, no truth to these rumors.

Ken Matsuda

One of his most trusted subordinates that isn't a part of Silver Squadron, Ken Matsuda works as the muscle for Victor's plans when they require such. This isn't common, however. Outside of business, the two have a quiet respect for each other, as they both share a focus on the practical aspects of raiding - that is, supplies, equipment, and profit.
