An obsolete Eagle class Dreadnaught, this ship was declared missing in action after a classified deep space mission in Galileo, during which a large Dark Matter storm swept through the system. The ship took heavy damage, but the radiation had an even worse effect on her crew, killing all hands in the space of a few minutes. Adrift, the ship was eventually caught by the gravity well of the Illinois star before her systems and beacons eventually gave out.

Over a century later, surprised Liberty Police Inc. (LPI) scouts on patrol in one of the more remote sectors of Illinois happened upon the ship. Preserved in the vacuum of space after her life support systems failed, the ship was in good condition all things considering. The LPI petitioned the Liberty government to have the ship restored at their expense, and then assigned to Illinois to bolster the security of that system.

While obsolete by Navy standards, the McNeil is still more then capable of handling pirates that would try to threaten the security of the system.
