Biography
Family
Born on Ingolstadt Station, 790 A.S., Michael was the lone child of his parents. His father was the station administrator of Ingolstadt and a high ranking commander in the Republican Shipping business; his mother, well she was his mother, always caring for him and his father and keeping the whole family together, how ever far they would be apart.
School life and the Nomad War
At the age of 12 his parents sent Michael to a boarding school on Planet New Berlin which he performed excellently at. Michael was supposed to go earlier but he had to wait until the Nomad War had finished, as he was a lot safer in the far away Munich system. Still as he just arrived in New Berlin after everything had finished he heard a lot of personal accounts of members of the Military and he was shocked to hear the pseudo-warfare that these Nomad aliens had fought with. Michael was a very smart child and his pre-determined career of being in the Republican Shipping business was soon changed to becoming an officer in the Rheinland Military. He graduated from the school early at the age of 16 and then attended the New Berlin college until graduating with a lot of praise from his mentors at the age of 21.
Military Career
He then joined the Rheinland Military and rose throught the ranks quickly. He was loyal to the Kanzler but the ideology of the opressive government seemed strange to him and he kept being open-minded about everything. He soon after got the command of a new gunboat class vessel, the Wallgau. He treated his crew and gained the respect of many by staying calm in many battles and leading the Military to some decisive victories. Just as everything seemed to be going well he received news from Ingolstadt Station that there had been a Unioner attack which left both his mother and father dead; it was the year 815 A.S.. This was a real shock for him and this is where Michael's hatred for the Unioners originates from. He was valued and well on track to receiving his first cruiser command. But just weeks before his promotion, the unthinkable happened.
The demise of his career
In the military ranks Michael had met the supposed Woman of his dreams,Christine Maier, married her in late 815 A.S. and she gave birth to his only son in 816 A.S.. In mid-816 A.S. the Wallgau was called to escort a Daumann transport through Rheinland Core space. Once reaching their destination, the Daumann transport refused three attempts by Michael to scan their vessel and as he tried a fourth time he got a comms from an angry Military general who ordered him to stand down and return to New Berlin. Michael very much remembered this incident and in the next days he researched into the Daumann reports he got from some of his collegues and found the horrible truth; Daumann was involved with secret slave trade, and the Military was used to cover it all up. Michael intercepted a Daumann transport and its military escort in an asteroid field in New Berlin and his worst worries were confirmed; the transport was full of slaves. Without the other ships realising what he had found out, he left the convoy and returned planetside. Michael had heard about the Bundschuh before, that they were a massive political group and that they happily take refugees. So he returned home in order to get his wife and his 9 month old son to take them to safety, as he felt he was being followed on his way back planetside. But when he returned back home he only saw the back of two Marinenachrichtendienst agents. The last words he heard were "If you won't tell us where he is, you are going to have to pay"; then two shots, and silence. Enraged Michael pulled his pistol out and killed the two agents, but it was all too late. His family was dead, they had even killed his nine month old son.
Despair and restart
Michael gave himself the fault for the death of his family. If he would have just been there to protect them, if he wouldn't have started sniffing around, they would still be alive. Heartbroken he packed his bag and left behind the four dead bodies. He had lost everything, his career, his family, his parents. He set out back to the spaceport to get to his crew. Luckily noone knew that he was being chased yet and he made it on board. He called everyone together and told them his findings and what happened. He told them that he would take the Wallgau to the Bundschuh, even if he had to do it on his own. He offered them the chance to stay on New Berlin or to swear total loyality to him and to follow him through thick and thin, wherever they would go. 3 men went, the clerk, the co-captain and a mechanic. The rest stayed and the crew remains mostly unchanged to this date. Michael left behind everything, but hopes to return back "home" one day.
The Bundschuh and the VWA
Michael was surprised to be welcomed by so many familiar faces on Bruchsal Base, but it helped him to find his way around in the initial year. The crew of the Wallgau stayed loyal and all were briefed on the current situation in Rheinland. Michael quickly earned himself the respect of fellow Bundschuh comrades through some heroic fights and his strong support for their political views. An interesting fact is that none of the crewmembers of the Wallgau which he came to the Bundschuh with, have ever left him apart from one engineer, who died in a terrible vending machine accident. This really shows how influential Michael is. Michael had nothing to lose and so he decided to put all his life into the Bundschuh. When he heard that his old friend Michael Wolf had set up a branch, called the Vereinigte Widerstandsarmee he decided to join him on his endeavour to unite the Bundschuh and Michael is ever since known to be a strong member of the VWA. Michael Hermann is determined to stay active for as long as possible.
Ships
VWA|Wallgau Gunboat |
The Wallgau is what Michael loves the most about his soldier life. His first command and the best crew he could wish for; all these things are the Wallgau. Soon after joining the Bundschuh ranks the Hessian engineers gave the ship a thorough tech upgrade which now means that the only thing that still reminds people of its' old duties is the traditional forward gun, lovingly names "Sasha" by the crew and commander. The Wallgau is one of the flagships of the Vereinigte Widerstandsarmee and Michael is even convinced that it should be the official flagship, but he will probably never get approval for that endeavour of his. This ship is more commonly known in the ranks of the VWA as the Walrus, probably mainly because it loses every race against Erich Klugmann's scimitar.
VWA|***unknown*** Wraith |
Not much is known about this ship. The only thing people know that the last thing Michael brought across from his military days was his own Wraith, which he rose through the ranks of the Military with. The ship hasn't been seen since he joined the Bundschuh, but knowing Michael, everyone thinks that he wouldn't be able to leave his history and this ship behind, so it probably still exists out there.
VWA|Michael.Herman Thor |
This is the first ship he got after talking to his new contacts in the Red Hessian ranks. Some of the men he met in the ranks of the Red Hessians and the Bundschuh knew him and valued him before they switched sides and they showed their appreciation for his command and when 4 Red Hessian engineers joined the crew of the Wallgau one of the men also passed his Thor on to Michael. Michael appreciated the gift and he values his friendship with the Hessians even more after this.
Personality
Michael Hermann is a caring soul. He is very interested in what goes in every last one of his crewmen. While some people might call him nosey, he calls it being a good commander. Even though Michael really doesn't belong to the senior members by age yet, he is very patronizing and enjoys hearing stories of the successes of younger members and he values every last one of them. Michael is a strong commander and his incredibly well thought out decisions get valued even by higher commanding members of the VWA. Michael does not like situations getting out of hands and prefers a strong, controlled environment. While he does enjoy a controlled atmosphere, he is a very loud character; he gets excited easily and can be a little clumsy, as he likes to knock things over. A little arrogance might be seen from him from time to time. He does enjoy a good argument, because he is quite certain that he will come out victorious anyway. Apart from that he knows when to be serious and when to joke and he is a balanced individual. He considers opinions from others and believes in the freedom of speech.

Political Views
Michael himself always stayed up-to-date with politics, even in his Military days. He was largely unaffected by the Propaganda and kept an open mind, which might have led to his demise in the military. He believes in the Bundschuh views and wants to see them back in the Bundestag and representing Rheinland. In case of a political success, he could see himself leading the Military. He doesn't really have any major hatred for any faction, apart from the Rheinland government hounds and the Unioners. Having killed his parents in the attack on Ingolstadt Station they are his personal nemesis and he only ever lands on their bases when it is tactically required and even then both station command and he agree that he should not leave the ship , which means that the only people leaving the ship are the crewmembers while he stays in his cabin. The other hostilites are pre-determined through his role; he hates that ones that hunt him, and that's why the Bounty Hunters find themselves on his bad side as well as the Corsairs.
