Kansas System

Kansas is a relatively unpopulated system with many astronomical features. Two planets; Topeka and Wichita with their moons Olathe and Colby populate the system along with a number of empty asteroid fields and an ice field. Despite it's features in terms of quantity there is hardly any quality amongst any of them. All but one planet has been considered unfit for terraforming.

An unusual purple cloud of unknown matter exists within the Kansas system. However much pioneers try to register it onto the universal map charts our navigation systems do not recognize it as an existing substance, so no name can be or will be registered for this particular cloud. However it has been given a nickname for reference among pilots as the Turtle Creek Nebula. Rumour has it a number of pilots have disappeared into the depths of the cloud never to return; this adding superstition to the Kansas system along the lines of the tale of the wizard of oz. A common phrase is used amongst pilots when Kansas is "Buckle up Toto, we're not in Kansas anymore"

Although there are no legally recognised establishments in Kansas, several alternative groups and organisations have, over the years of Kansas' official recognition as a system, taken up residence; each with their own reasons - but typically to avoid the eyes and effects of others. The remains of a base known today as "Junction" exist within the Overland Park Asteroid Field although its' origins and purpose are not common knowledge. A group identifying itself as the Neo-Terran Front attempted to restore this wreckage to a functional outpost about 817-818A.S however their operation was terminated by a combined Naval-LSF operation in the system.

More contemporary unofficial inhabitants of Kansas include the McDowell Company Fleet, a pirate faction whose de-facto headquarters exist on Colby, the small, icy moon of Wichita, and The Outer Project, a well-organised professional smuggling racket who currently reside on a partially-mobile Barge-class super transport.
