Freeport 8 is a recently-constructed station in the heart of the Sigma-15 system, its population composed primarily of refugees from Planet Nuremberg and disparate bands of people from the war-torn Omicrons. The majority evidently departed Hammersee after having found the planet's surface to be considerably less hospitable than colonization advertisement made it out to be.
The crew of the Freeport is composed of tradesmen, eking out an uncertain living offering their varied abilities to the highly contested system - Primarily to the Corsairs and the Bundschuh. The government of Rheinland ignited controversy when it claimed the station as their own for a brief time due to the citizenship of its population, but the Bundschuh's redoubled strikes against the Federal forces in the system forced those plans to be delayed, at least for the time being.
Nonetheless, rumors exist that Marinenachrichtendienst and Bundespolizei special agents hold positions on the station, targeting vendors suspected of aiding their mortal foes in the system.
