This harmed the Council's reputation so much that all Maquis have been expelled from their home faction and had to seek new bases of operation, although the two groups did not become enemies as many expected. Instead, the Maquis evolved into pragmatic group of fortune seekers who would deal both with the Council and other Gallic unlawfuls. While nowadays Maquis focus on piracy and contraband much more than on political terrorism, they have played an important role in the Second Gallic War, fighting beside the Council ships against the Gallic Royal Navy, and seeking much needed help of other Gallia unlawfuls in supplying Council war efforts.
