Summary

The Black Sails is a group formed after the Omega Pirates Guild ceased to exist. In the beginning it only consisted of former OPG members, but it soon their ranks grew in numbers and added some of the best Corsair pilots they could find. As it's predecessor, the Black Sails are ensuring a stable supply of resources (be it cargo or credits) for the Empire.

History

The Corsairs survival always depended on resources from the outside. When they made contact with the other colonists, the great expansion started. The Artifact market was very profitable for them, and they used this to their advantage. As the nation expanded, they would require more and more resources, and the artifact trade couldn't cover it anymore. The Corsairs had to turn to different means of supplying themselves with essentials. The Elders decided to use one of their greatest advantages - their ships. Being ultimately superior over anything Sirius had to offer, the Corsairs would be sent outside of their home and bring back whatever they could get their hands on. In the late 8th century AS, the soon-to-be Corsair pirate king - Gentle - realized they need a well organized group to actually acquire enough resources to keep the Empire alive. He would gather the best of the best Corsairs and ask them to step up to the challenge of being primary suppliers. They would become the most notorious group in Corsair and neighboring space. A relatively large group of pirates and smugglers led by Gentle were the last thing anyone would want to see on their scanner. Then something happened - the Pirate King went mad. The reasons for this remain hidden from public, but the fact he lost it is known. His son, Sparta took over his father's seat, but he lacked something his father had. Soon, the high-rank members became greedy and envious of him. He was young in their eyes, they dedicated their whole life to this cause and this boy now comes and just takes over? From the outside, the guild was nearly indestructible, but it's end came from within.

(WORK IN PROGRESS)

Ranks

The Black Sails are not using ranks in the usual way. In standard situations, there are no superiors or subordinates in the group. Normally when more pilots are in space they have a fairly horizontal hierarchy and a rather friendly mind-set. The ranks come in effect when the situation requires so - when meeting a larger transport convoy or in mid-to-large scale fights. In such cases the pilot with the highest rank either takes control of the situation or designates a pilot he finds suitable to lead the group.

Sovereign

The pirate Sovereign of the Black Sails is the most feared pirate terrorizing the convoys in the Omegas, Omicrons, Sigmas, and some Bretonian and Rheinland systems. He leads a large wing of pirates that fight to the death to make the Corsairs nation the biggest in Sirius. Any external relations and actions are consequences - directly or not – of his wishes.

Buccaneers

The Buccaneers are the left and right hands of their Sovereign, they are feared pilots that manage their part of the Black Sails wing. All internal affairs are attributed to them such as the recruitment, promotions, demotions and the punishments. Their count is limited to 2 for the time being.

Raiders

Being the second in command's most trusted, they answer only to the Sovereign and their respective Buccaneer. Each Buccaneer has one and one only to help keep their respective garrison / wing in order. They can vote instead of their Buccaneers on important internal decisions, when their direct superior is nowhere to be found. They are picked by the buccaneers themselves and the Sovereign has no say in their decision.

Treasure Hunters

The most trusted Sailors are given the rank of Treasure Hunters. They are known as efficient pirates and excellent pilots. They are given the right to use some shared ships when their own doesn't fit the needs.

Sailors

The Sailors are the main parts of the guild. Without them, the guild would turn into bits in no times. Those pilots have already an average experience that make them still redoubtable for any trading corporations and even the elite outcasts pilots.

Slaves

When it comes to enter a such important guild, the rights we get at start are close to nothing. The Slaves earn their rights through hard tests that only few pilots survive. To add to that, the slaves, once in the guild, are given one month to turn their sails to the full black and become a Sailor. If they don't, they are hunted down and killed for they possess, albeit limited, inside information about the Black Sails guild.

Ship Usage

Ship usage is very specific in the group. Since it is natural to do hit-and-run attacks, the group needs smaller craft to operate properly and/or in secrecy. Even deployment of gunboats is discouraged by the high-command. Generally, everything sold on Corsair bases smaller than a Cruiser class is fine to use by the Sails, and every pilot needs to have at least one Titan or a Gladiator.
