Pages that have to be merged with this one

Allied/neutral/enemy/etc.

I think the information about who is ally/enemy/neutral towards whom would be better placed on the pages of the factions themselves.

Not sure about the format yet. Will add info from http://discoverygc.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=1304 to make this more precise.

Please have a look at Liberty Player Factions for a format proposal. I took the time to format the factions that were there into a sortable table.

I like the idea to put Affiliation there instead of Alignment, that would make the Outcasts/Corsairs easier to classify.

Is the list you put up composed of official factions only, or does it contain unofficials, too?

Nodwick 08:40, 14 May 2008 (GMT)

Table is better. But I'd suggest to add a new page for it like Factions Table to keep the current list. We (admins) may have certain use for it later.

Also, separate page with table will allow to make it all sortable (include all 32 factions without separating them into houses).

I'd suggest the following table column order: Name, Tag, Affiliation, Home system, Description. Area is nice, but won't work for Hispania factions (which are not only in Hispania) and for factions like Junkers, Zoners etc.

Reference info for official factions is here: http://discoverygc.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=7453 most current. I used only factions listed on this page.

Having the data redundant is a bad idea, I think, because in the long run, updates won't be done in both. That will either leave one massively outdated and the other one current (better case) or both in a very inconsistent state (worst case).

About the columns, those seem good, I'll update the pages as soon as I find the time.

Nodwick 09:01, 14 May 2008 (GMT)

How do you put the time stamp here? :)

Anyway, the list of approved factions is quite consistent, and admins would probably prefer to update it on forums instead of here. So, there will be a slight delay anyway. If the table will be compiled, it can be used as the main resource for factions, while my list will be used as backup (possibly for adding more info/admin notes). I'll just move current Player Factions to a new location, then move Factions Table to Player Factions.

Also I'd propose to remove links for NPC factions (if I'm not mistaken, they are placed in the "description" column, right?), most probably no one would ever add any detailed info on those.

Igiss

I just sign with 4 tildes (~) and the wiki fills in the rest. :)

NPC factions should get their own pages. They will probably be quite short, but that shouldn't stop us from adding them. After all, there is the page Defender (original), which is mostly interesting for people who don't use Discovery or who want to compare it with the Discovery version. I'm on the 'Wikipedia is not paper' side in this case.

Factions that might not be official

These factions have been merged here from the page Liberty Player Factions but were not in Igiss' list: King of Fighters, Liberty Police Incorporated, Xeno Alliance

This faction has been merged here from the page Bretonia Player Factions but were not in Igiss' list: Bretonia Police Authority

These factions have been merged here from the page Kusari Player Factions but were not in Igiss' list: Artisan Farmers Alliance, Gas Miners Guild, Golden Chrysanthemums, Kishiro Technologies, Kusari State Police, Samura Industries

These factions have been merged here from the page Rheinland Player Factions but were not in Igiss' list: Hessian Tears, Rheinland Federal Police

This faction has been merged here from the page Hispania Player Factions but were in Other in Igiss' list: Mandalorian Mercenaries -> I left them in Hispania for now.

I'm not sure if they are official/where they belong, can anyone help?

Nodwick 11:43, 14 May 2008 (GMT)

http://discoverygc.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=7453 - if faction's not here, then it's not official. So no, all those should be moved to player groups.

No reason to create separate pages for systems.

And not the best idea to put descriptions that would appear longer than 1 line for 1280x1024 monitor (which is about 90 symbols).

Otherwise looks good.

Igiss 12:12, 14 May 2008 (GMT)

One more thing (a bit offtopic for this talk section, but anyway): can we just remove the "system, house" part of the system column? Would be shorter, more understandable, and it's clear to which region the systems belong anyway.

Mandalorians are part of "others" group.

Igiss 12:15, 14 May 2008 (GMT)

I think I stated it before, I'd like the description to be empty all the time, and have the information on the page of the faction. The description here is just 'inherited' with the merge and by no means my work. Just didn't want to loose something.

About 'System, Hose' (sp?) - you're right, we can just put the system there. But I'd be happy to see systems to have a page, or maybe have the link lead to a map. That would especially help newbies.

Nodwick 12:31, 14 May 2008 (GMT)

Description might be a few brief words on what the faction is. Like, if it's invite-only or has some special status (oldest faction on server? most numerous? etc).

Meant "system, house". Systems shouldn't have pages. I cannot allow to post system maps anywhere except for specific RP/event needs.

Igiss 12:57, 14 May 2008 (GMT)

Ok, then the links should be removed. Either you do it, or I'll do when I do another change of the page.

Nodwick 13:07, 14 May 2008 (GMT)

You may. Also, I've added an entry to your talk - can we transfer factions in the same table format? to create a single table for all player groups.

I'll get to deleting unneeded pages sometime later. At work, busy.

Igiss 13:09, 14 May 2008 (GMT)

I've noticed your entry while already changing the format of Player Groups. Now it's possible to transfer a group to factions by just cut-and-paste, or create a complete table by appending them to each other.

Deletions don't have to be fast, because there might be people who object the deletion. Just take your time :)

I think there is quite an important issue, concerning official factions:

Igiss, the thread you linked above has not been updated since September, last year. Since then, multiple factions have been "approved by Admins" (it was called that way) and have been added to the Faction Status Thread. Clearance on this issue is important, since, according to your defintion, a lot of factions that think they are official (e.g. BPA) basically are wrong.

I posted in the Wiki thread on the Discovery forums as well, regarding this subject: [1]

Replied on forums.

I'll get admin(s) there, hopefully including AC_Merc, so that they could edit the list themselves. Not going to trust players in what factions to consider official or not. Sorry.
