Tellurium is a mildly toxic, brittle, silver-white metalloid that is chemically related to sulfur and selenium. Its primary use is an ingredient in alloys to increase their machinability. Combined with cadmium, it can be used to produce highly efficient Solar Panels. Combined with cadmium and mercury, it can be used to manufacture infrared sensitive semiconductors.
