Editing guidelines
- Everything on this wiki should be be available in grammatically correct English. Established conventions say to use American English, though the differences in dialects are close enough to not worry too much about it. You should be able to give your page text to an English professor/teacher and not have them fail you. (let's say at whatever schooling level corresponds to age 16 or so in your educational system)
- Take a look at the Style Guide, it should have specific guidelines for different page types.
- Discovery Wiki:General Discussion has archives of discussions about specific issues about formatting and what should be included. Please read that before removing things from pages that you might think should be kept 'secret', and other things like that.
- If you see something that you think is wrong with a page, check the corresponding talk page (the 'discussion' tab at the top of the page) to see if it is intentional or has already been discussed. If there is no talk page, ensure that you are correct, and make the change. If it's something weird (not just updating an infocard or something), or something you can't fix yourself, leave a note on the talk page.
- If the grammar is bad in any infocards or there is a typo, feel free to fix it, but please leave a note for the devs in the Infocard Feedback Thread on the forums, or else it might get overlooked and not fixed in the next updates.
Editing Priorities
(Things that anyone can help with)
- System pages needing an update - Please add whatever you can to the systems, look at New York and Pennsylvania for examples of 'complete' pages. This page is a pet project of Tracky, when you update something please edit it to add a comment next to the system saying what you changed, he will move them once the edits are verified.
- This is high priority because it cannot be automated (especially the system description) since much of it is RP and lore based, not taken directly from infocards.
- Update the location availability for all the mining commodities. See Talk:Commodities#Mine-able_Commodities.
- Category:Images to be replaced and Category:Pages without profile images
- Again, not able to be automated, and is best done by lots of people who can submit a few images each. Try to name your images the same as the page name that they're for, it will help organization
- Player Factions and Player Groups should be kept up to date by someone in the faction
- Player Characters - If you have one on the wiki, it would be helpful to keep it updated here.
- Create all the planet pages, and update bases to include commodities - use the Wiki Code Generators to get all the technical stuff, then paste it into the pages. Please keep any user comments or RP-related content that exists on the pages, and make sure you don't lose the image on the page if there is one.
- My scripts only print out what is in the infocards and inis, and the format was decided on over the course of a few months by a group in the skype wiki chat. I am very open to suggestions as to how they can be improved. -Cshake (talk)
- Links must be added manually to infocards and descriptions (it would be a ton of work to automate that), please check over the text and add as needed when pasting onto the wiki. As mentioned above, any grammar or spelling fixes to the infocards should be reported to the devs.
- Check things with outdated version tags: V4.85, V4.85 update 1, V4.85 update 2. Also, anything without a version tag is fair game to be verified and have one added.
- Many things have not changed between the updates, so it's simply a matter of changing the category on the bottom of the page to [[Category: V4.85.3]]. When the updates come out, I (cshake) have my ini scripts give a printout of all the wiki-relevant changes, and the vast majority of pages with any changed content have already been fixed, but after 3 updates in quick succession Tracky and I got a little burned out updating hundreds of pages only to finish and have a new version the next week...
- Put a link to the faction or group threads on the GC forums onto the faction or group pages here on the Wiki.
- Anything else you think you could add that has value, go for it!
Advanced TO DO
- Add descriptive "USAGE" instructions to all templates. As seen in Template:System.
- Add "What needs fixing reasons" to the "Stubs/incomplete" section on all pages that are listed at Category:Stubs.
- Adding these reasons and things to fix, to the TODO page, so that people no longer have an excuse "I don't know what to do!" for fixing the wiki.
- Coding - Finish Template:Test Faction Infobox so that other servers can have their faction information on the wiki. Take care, this is an extremely delicate subject, and must be handled very gently. Easy logic but complex coding. Make sure you know what you are doing before attempting this. ~Chovynz~ (Blabs • Ego) (Wiki Admin) 15:07, 25 October 2009 (MDT)
- If you want to replace the wiki logo, just replace this image, Image:WikiLogo.png
Details for above items
Old Diplomacy Template
The old Template:Allies that was originally used for showing diplomatic standing on pages is still being used on many pages even though we have a new and better Template:Faction Diplomacy. Please look at this link for pages that need updating: http://discoveryfl.com/wiki/index.php?title=Special:Whatlinkshere/Template:Allies

Images needing replacement
Reasons: Pictures don't follow the precedent of other alike images. These are to be edited at a later date, when renders or more suitable pictures can be made. These often will be in use already and can be safely left as is, until a better picture is uploaded. Watch for "dark images", discolored or bad framing.
Some images may need attention due to the content and image subject not really in context of each other. Others may need a better angle or different framing. Others may need better lighting or clearer focus.

Missing Images
All factions that require an image: Please add something that is relevant to the faction. Collated missing faction image list
Commodities
- Anyone, please verify legal status for Category:Contraband if you've got more information. -Cshake (feedback) 9/24/09
Ships
- Check all Civilian ships statuses. Some need IMG to be added to the Ship builder/owner field in the Template.
Specific Ship Issues
- What to name the CTE series Civilian ships? Should they be consistent with everything else?
- The Adad - should it include "The" in the name?
Factions
- Add their ID to the NPC factions pages. Probably in a "See also" heading.
- Thought: Add a spot to one of the relevant templates (NPC faction, faction infobox, something like that) rather than adding ID to the end of an article. Sovereign 13:02, 24 November 2009 (MST)
- Fix the hardcoded ugly white background on player faction diplomacy charts
- I did Liberty, Bretonia, Kusari, and Gallia just now. Rheinland, Hispania, and the misc. still need this done to them. Sovereign 14:07, 24 November 2009 (MST)
- Further update. I have fixed all official player faction pages, and all NPC pages I checked were already done. I believe this is done now. Sovereign 16:28, 27 November 2009 (MST)
- Add the link to their threads on the GC Forums to factions pages. Probably in a "See also" heading.
Incorrect Content
Xenos
Content suspect. Needs revision. Check if infobox matches Disco info as well.
Someone in the know of Xenos please check. ~Chovynz~ (Blabs • Ego) 17:39, 22 June 2009 (MDT)
