History:

The Nomad Lair is currently a Dormant Nomad Hive located in the centre of the sensor blackout of the Omicron 92 system. It is unknown whether or not the Lair is responsible for the fact that Navmaps are rendered useless in the system, or if the interference is caused by the system's location deep within the Edge.

This lair was not always inactive - it is the very same place where where Edison Trent retrieved the Nomad Power Cell which was subsequently used to activate the Artifact on Planet Toledo, which in turn activated the Hyper Gate at The Battle of Omicron Major. The Nomad Airlocks on either flat side were originally protected by shields that were projected by generators positioned on several columns protruding from the equatorial trench. Once these were destroyed, the shields would no longer function. and the core of the structure could be entered through either airlock. The Nomad Powercell was contained within this core area, which was bathed by severe radiation - which did not dissipate after the core was removed from its place between the prongs of the core.

The Nomad Lair was considered "dormant" after Edison Trent removed the core from it.

Current Activity:

Whether it, in the year of 817, is still "dormant" is a matter of some contention. The turrets within the equatorial trench and upon the flat sides surrounding the Nomad Airlocks actively fire upon any vessels that come within range. There are no Nomad vessels to be seen around it, and neither can the airlocks be opened again; thus blocking access to the core of the structure. As such, no investigations can be made to see if it is actually still without a core and thus dormant.

Only time, perhaps, will tell.

Conjecture:

The "black crystal asteroids" of the southern Omicron Theta system and of the Malvada Cloud in the Omicron Gamma system bear much more than a passing resemblance to the Nomad Lair. These "black crystal asteroids" in fact appear to be fragments of a Nomad Lair. This may explain the presence of Alien Artifacts within certain pockets of the Malvada Cloud. Given that these asteroids are described as "black crystal," it might suggest that the Nomad Lair itself is made of a similar material, or at least sections of it might be. Also, artifacts are made of crystal, and there are some pockets of the Malvada Cloud that can be "mined" for Alien Artifacts. It may be that the crystal of the asteroids (and possibly the construction of the lair) might very well be the same crystal of the Alien Artifacts.

The Malvada Cloud can not be scanned by a ship's scanners. Any attempts to do so will result in one's computer displaying an error message. This sensor deflection most likely arises from the "black crystal asteroids" which, if they are indeed parts of what the Nomad Lair is made of, might explain why sensors are so useless within the Omicron-92 System - the "black crystal asteroids" which may make up the structure of the lair wreak havoc with Human sensor devices. This may also account for the effects of some Alien Artifacts upon Humans and human technology.

It should also be noted that the Nomad Lair shares no designs in common with either the Dyson Sphere or the Nomad City therein. It is possible that this is the seperation between Nomad "architecture" and Daam K'vosh architecture.
