Overview

With a tradition of over three centuries in leisure services, Orbital Spa and Cruise is the only corporation with origins in Liberty focused on passengers transport and luxury resorts, for the rich and famous. Known as a provider of high-quality luxury travel services, this corporation operates in systems from the almost all Sirius houses.

History

A few years before the Texas incident, one of the most important events from the entire Sirius history, in 475 A.S., a very rich businessman, Tony Cortez, has founded a corporation named "Orbital Spa and Cruise", having its headquarters on Planet Curacao. Offering initially only luxury leisure services for travelers in transit through the Cortez system and being favored by the lack of competitors on the tourism market of those times, this corporation enjoys a huge success. In short time, more rich people were attracted by its offers and Curacao became a pleasure planet where every whim and decadent urge is fulfilled.

In order to satisfy desires of those who have higher levels of incomes, Orbital Spa and Cruise has decided to extend its activity, entering the shipping business. But unlike other corporations, was focused mainly on passenger transport and to carry luxury goods. Due to the quality services offered, Orbital Spa and Cruise has built a great reputation and was perceived as one of the most richest corporations from the entire Sirius. With a flexible policy, the company was able to establish good relationships with lawful authorities from the almost all Sirius houses.

Despite its origins, Orbital Spa and Cruise was allowed to operate in places where other Liberty corporations were restricted, including those located in Rheinland space, the worst Liberty's enemy. Inevitably, was felt the need to settle new destinations for vacationers, tourists, VIP's or any other people that were willing to pay enough, just to taste from the pleasure of traveling through space, aboard a luxury vessel. Over time, Orbital Spa and Cruise has opened new offices in different far-flung systems, like Stuttgart, Sigma-19, Nagano or Newcastle, known also as New Anglia. After Curacao, Baden Baden was the second planet where this corporation has chosen to expand operations and where still maintains a popular resort, though it has seen a decline in business as the economic situation in Rheinland grows worse, while radicals sympathetic to the LWB farmer's movement attack government officials who vacation here.

In 791 A.S., in its efforts to include in itineraries offered the most beautiful places from the entire Sirius, Orbital Spa and Cruise became interested by a place with a wonderful view, from the Sigma-19 system. Not having the possibility to land on the planet Hiran, a gas giant with few resources worth the climb out of its steep gravity well, the company decide to invest a huge amount of money for placing of a "wilde class liner" on the orbit of this uninhabited planet, being considered as a place with a good potential in the tourists attraction. The movement has proved to be a inspired one because, even today, the "Luxury Liner Hawaii" is an incredibly popular destination for the most travelers. According with some rumors, Orbital Spa and Cruise have dealings there with more or less lawful groups, like Hogosha or Corsairs, and that location was used as a cover for illegal activities, but its representatives officially never admitted such things.

As part of the expansion strategy, other two liners were established in Kusari and Bretonia. The first, this time an "Enterprise" class ship baptized "Luxury Liner Mackinac", was placed on the orbit of the planet Tomioka from the Nagano system. Although initially, Orbital Spa and Cruise has planned the establishment of a new operating center directly on the planet, this intention was abandoned, due to Samura's prejudice against foreign companies in Kusari. The Mackinac has been a frequent target of blackmail and extortion, as well as rampant drug dealing by the Hogosha in Nagano. The reduced income caused by the Hogosha and Samura has determined many ranking Orbital Spa and Cruise executives to question its economic viability.

However, with the recently retreating of the "Luxury Liner Shetland" from Edinburgh to Newcastle (New Anglia) system, in the face of Gallia's invasion, Orbital Spa and Cruise has been forced to accept any possible money-making locations for their liners, regardless of the risk and problems that come with them. The Shetland is famous for its gourmet restaurants and shopping arcades but also for offered tours of the protected preserve of Gaia, a beautiful, tropical paradise and pristine world, where visas are an extraordinarily rare and expensive item.

As a notable event in its history, could be mentioned that in 817 A.S., Orbital Spa and Cruise was involved along with the Independent Miners Guild, in the negociations between the representative governments of the Republic of Liberty and the Realm of Bretonia, concerning the governance and security of the Magellan and Cortez systems, finally materialized through signing of an agreement, known as the "Treaty of Curacao". The signing ceremony of this treaty took place in the orbit of planet Curacao but had a negative effect over relationships between this corporation and all authorities from the Gallia space. From this reason, neither today, the presence of its vessels is not welcome in their systems.

Through the years, there have been several attempts to create subsidiary companies of the Orbital Spa and Cruise. The most important were "PanGalactic Travel Company" founded by David Sander in 816 A.S. and later, "White Spa Lines" company, created by an ambitions man, named Walter Stryker. Thanks to an architect of this second subsidisiary, Peter Englund, who designed a new type of ship known as L-584 "Enterprise", the Orbital Spa and Cruise corporation was able to create a special division of luxury liners highly appreciated in all Sirius system. Anyway, if the second subsidiary had followed the policy decided by the mother corporation, PanGalactic Travel Company had particularly close relationships with the Bretonian authorities and chosen to establish its headquarters aboard the PGL Majestic, a Bretonian Royal Liner which was decommissioned after service in the Foreign Office. Unfortunately, all these attempts have failed due to a weak management structure and/or lack of clear roles and responsibilities for those involved.

In present, this company is seen and act more like an independent one. Being in a transition period due to some changes in leadership, it is believed that Orbital Spa and Cruise plans to implement a new strategy in order to become more attractive, consisting in a improvement of the business relationships with all corporations from the Gallia space, but in the conjunction with a strengthening of those that are already settled with the companies and governments from the Liberty, Bretonia, Rheinland and Kusari space. Also, it is expected a change in the company structure, with three divisions much better organized. Definitely, if this strategy will work, Orbital Spa and Cruise could become the only corporation with access granted in all Sirius houses.

» Planet Curacao, Cortez (Headquarters)

Unfettered by colony law, Curacao is run by Orbital Spa and Cruise Lines as a pleasure planet where every whim and decadent urge is fulfilled. The only sound that can be heard over the lapping waves on its fabulous beaches is the tremendous outpouring of credits by its patrons. This is not a planet for the idle vacationer. It was established to cater to the affluent from Manhattan and Los Angeles who, in many cases, have more currency than morals.

» Planet Baden Baden, Stuttgart

Baden Baden is an idyllic world of large oceans, black sand beaches, and the odd hot spring bubbling from volcanic outcroppings of rock. Orbital Spa and Cruise Lines maintains a popular resort here, though it has seen a decline in business as the economic situation in Rheinland grows worse while radicals sympathetic to the LWB farmer's movement attack government officials who vacation here. Orbital has reportedly been trying to remedy the situation by attracting bargain-hunting Liberty tourists.

» Luxury Liner Hawaii, Sigma-19

Luxury Liner Hawaii is an incredibly popular destination for travelers, established in the spectacular vistas of the Sigma-19 system, one of the most beautiful places in all of Sirius. The location of the ship outside the policed boundaries of the colonies is also rumored to be part of the attraction, and much of the popularity of the Hawaii lies in the implied promise of forbidden fruit available to those who can afford a ticket.

» Luxury Liner Mackinac, Nagano

Luxury Liner Mackinac caters mostly to tourists from the other houses who were unable to secure reservations planetside, as Samura holds native Kusarians at a higher priority, making it both more expensive and more difficult for foreigners to gain living quarters on the planet. The Mackinac has been a frequent target of blackmail and extortion, as well as rampant drug dealing by the Hogosha in Nagano. This extra overhead and the reduced income caused by the Hogosha and Samura has caused many ranking OS&C executives to question its economic viability.

» Luxury Liner Shetland, Newcastle/New Anglia

Owned and operated by Orbital Spa and Cruise Lines, the Shetland is a moveable feast for the rich and those who service them. Aside from its gourmet restaurants and shopping arcades, guides aboard the Shetland offer tours of the protected preserve of Gaia, a beautiful and pristine world, but planetside visas are an extraordinarily rare and expensive item.

Due to the aspirations of becoming the only corporation with access granted in all Sirius houses, the Orbital Spa and Cruise vessels could be found everywhere. However, its representatives recommend avoiding Gallia space and all those systems where are settled bases belonging to hostile corporations or enemies groups.

Being in a transition period due to some changes in leadership, a clear map with areas of operations has not been published yet, but it is expected to be made soon, once that the Board of Directors will have enough members to be able to debate this matter.

Anyway, should be mentioned that in present, the Orbital Spa and Cruise vessels are not allowed to dock on the planets or stations managed by: Bundschuh, EFL Oil & Machinery, Gallic Metal Service, Gallic Royal Navy, Gallic Royal Police, Hellfire Legion, IDF Shipping, Solar Engineering, Landwirtrechtbewegung, Mollys and The Order.
