Being based in one of the only sources of abundant uranium in Sirius, LD-14 is both a mining station and a refinery.
The station was sieged and successfully boarded by the Gallic Royal Navy during their push into Leeds not long after the fall of Stokes, despite dogged resistance from the York and her fleet. The Gallic Navy suffered heavy casualties in this assault, not having been prepared for the high radiation inside the field, some of which having been deliberately caused by the Armed Forces as they fragmented Uranium-rich asteroids, scattering irradiated microasteroids throughout the LD-14 asteroid field. Nearly all of the surviving Gallic forces involved in the assault on LD-14 suffered some form of radiation poisoning.
The station itself was not heavily damaged, but hazardous levels of radiation make mining and refining operations extremely hazardous. The Gallic Royal Navy has left a skeleton crew aboard to secure the station and its defenses, but the station is effectively deserted.
