Gien is a large space colony located on the way from Orleanais to Auvergne. It was built in 442 A.G.S. to house construction workers employed to build the majority of the stations, Jump Gates and trade lanes throughout the system. When the lanes were completed, most of these workers moved on, leaving the station largely empty. Solar Engineering eventually acquired the station and converted it into a civilian colony.
While smaller than many other Gallic civilian stations, Gien brought Solar Engineering a good amount of profit. The station houses several light but high-tech industries that require a zero gravity environment, chief amongst them technological arrays combining organic and inorganic parts capable of “best guess algorithms”.
After the Crown-forced merger in 737 A.G.S., the assets of Solar Engineering were liquidated. By decree of Orleanais officials, the government took direct control over Gien’s administration.
