Space Stations use extensive air, water, and sewage filtration and purification systems to extract toxic organic wastes and purify the air and Water for recirculation. While space stations schedule regular shipments of fresh supplies, in an emergency, a station's filtration and purification systems are the only thing preventing the crew from suffering death from suffocation or dehydration.
