Outpost Hesperia was formerly a Hellfire Legion installation poised to enable strikes within the system of California against criminals and the forces of Liberty alike. It also served to bridge a gap between the Legion and its ally in the Xenos. Unfortunately, due to Commonwealth leadership's rhetoric and increasing doubts within the Xenos about the value of their alliance, relations soured sharply in the weeks prior to Liberty's strike on Seperatist forces in Bering.

The Xenos elected to keep most of their forces away from the massacre in Bering, conserving their manpower for two more important strategic and symbolic operations. The Liberty Rose and it's sizable attachment of snubcraft were sent after Rochester Base and the Xenos of Ramsey made it clear what they thought of the Commonwealth.

The outpost was bombarded while most Legion forces were occupied with Bering. Knowing reinforcements would be slow to arrive, outpost administrators surrendered and opened up the bay doors to the assault wing, who took control of the station swiftly and executed any who continued to profess support for the Commonwealth. Those that surrendered were spared. Though the operation to take the station was a success, the Xenos knew there would be retaliation.

Now rechristened Fontana, a new Xeno-approved crew bearing loyalties to the idea of a Free Republic were given administrative control and the doors were opened to all manner of scum and entrepreneurs. The station now gives a percentage of all the profit it makes to the Xenos, and the Xenos are quick to retaliate against anyone that interferes with this vital revenue source.
