Chateau d'If is the last station built in Gallic space before the Second Gallic War. It was completed in 708 A.G.S., the construction being a joint effort of the Royal Navy and Royal Police. The prison is meant to be a high-security facility for dangerous criminals, notably Maquis and Council members, as well as other space-based unlawfuls unfortunate enough to be caught alive. Conditions onboard Chateau d'If are rather cold compared to other Gallic prisons.
The facility is new, but it was designed to provide minimal space and conveniences for inmates. For all practical purpose a sentence to Chateau d'If means it will be served in solitary confinement. The prison's guards can track every step of each inmate via sophisticated surveillance equipment. The station has a restricted area to which most of the guards don't have access, where the Gallic Navy keeps its most dangerous enemies.
