The Koch family has its roots on earth, originally formed in ancient times by germanic aristocrats or merchants. It is believed the family has nordic forefathers, but not more can be said.

With the arrival in Sirius and the colonisation of Planet New Berlin, the German military, (including members of the Koch family), were put into power and began to establish a war-time government. During this time, the family played a significant role in Rheinland's politics and defence affairs. The later appointed Kaiser, (also a member of the Koch family), ensured the reign will stay within his imperial family. The Kochs were known as one of the most powerful elitist families since this date. It was forbidden to marry the member of a family with roots in a foreign house, to not pollute the own bloodline. Marriage was restricted to rich families with political or military influence in Rheinland. Through this method, the Kochs have guaranteed their grip on crucial governmental organs to strengthen the own position of power for about five centuries. With the end of the Rheinland empire however, the Kochs began to loose their political power almost entirely. So dies the gloss, but also the dreams of the imperial family overnight.

The family has suffered a lot through the Nomad War. Many officers within the military were possessed by Nomads during this time. Also members of the Koch family were deeply affected arguably because of their executive positions within the Rheinland military and the government. Most of them disappeared without a trace or died during the conflict. Only few of said infested members have survived the collapse of the mindshare.

Each member of the Koch family is of noble blood. They hold the gift of reign from their imperial forefathers. They are born leaders, naturally good in politics and known for being ruthless towards their opponents. The Kochs still maintain and pass down their proud traditions of serving the military to their offspring. Even if the outer appearance is deceiving, some members still follow the old codex of the imperial family and pursue the goal of restoring the political influence the family had before the fall of the empire, with all necessary means.

Karl-Friedrich Koch - Rheinwehr Officer

A former Admiral of the Rheinwehr and father of Nina and Volker Koch. He was constantly involved in military affairs until his last operation in Tau-29 during the Nomad War seemed to seal his fate, according to offical reports, but he survived and worked for the imperial party in the underground.

Admiral Koch had the command over the Rheinland battleship Schiller.

Bettina Koch - Politician

Bettina Zimmermann, mother of Nina and Volker Koch. She was a well known Politician, responsible for internal affairs in Rheinland. Her points of view were always a thorn in the eyes for many Bundestag members. Her still remarkable career lasted for a term of twenty two years until some rumors forced her to resign from office. Rumors came up that she had connections to the Bundschuh and tried to support their political goals. That's why many people called her the "Bundie Betti". She disappeared in the year 803 A.S. without a trace, right after her resigning. It is said the Bundschuh was responsible for her sudden and mysterious disappearance, but nobody could ever confirm this assumption.

Nina Koch - BND Intelligence Officer

Nina Koch is, or rather was, an highly regarded agent of the BDM. As former police officer, she joined the agency during the nomad war and fought against the alien threat in Rheinland. Koch is one of few founding members of the BDM Kommissariat, with crucial knowledge about latest agency internal security concepts and alien countermeasures.

Volker Koch - BDM Intelligence Officer

Volker Koch is a known military fanatic and a specialist in matters of guerilla warfare, with predilection for heavy guns. A true Rheinlander how he lives and breathes. He is soldier and military scientist at the same time. As specialist for combat ship design and battle tactics, he plays an important role in ongoing military projects and Rheinland's plans in the modernisation of its fleet. He participated already in numerous secret operations. His knowledge about internal BDM processes put him in constant danger to get caught and interrogated by various unlawful organizations. Many criminals would pay large sums to get these informations, what makes Volker to a popular target for terrorists.

There are plenty rumors about him. Some tell the existence of a shadow government led by him, others claim his involvement in Rheinland's major projects with intentions to build hybridized war vessels based on Nomad technology. Nobody knows his true intentions. He is rarely seen in public and always guarded by his agents.

Natalie Koch - Scientific Officer

Natalie Eichendorf served the BDM as Xenoarchaeologist. It is said, she found new Daam K'Vosh ruins during an expedition somewhere within the Omegas before she disappeared in the year 808 A.S. Natalie and Volker knew each other since their youth. They are married and have a daughter - Kathrin Koch.

Kathrin Koch - Freelancer

Not much is known about Kathrin. She is rarely seen in public and always accompanied by BDM agents. Volker takes care of Kathrin and often tends to be overprotective towards his daughter. Both mourn for the loss of Natalie. Volker isn't aware of Kathrin's connections to the Bundschuh or even about her Cardamine addiction.
