Although Methyr-Tydfill was setup late in 816 A.S. to begin Beryllium extraction from the nearby planet Studland, the settling of the Torfaen Asteroid Field in the system gave the station a new role. Harvesting the terraforming gases proved both profitable and inexpensive as well as serving to gradually replace Birmingham Station in Manchester as the system is slowly stripped of mineral value.
