Battleship Cassard was part of the Royal Navy line of defense when the Council broke through Languedoc. Although she was soundly defeated like the rest of her fleet, she was the only battleship not to be utterly destroyed ; she lost her engines to a collision with a Council cruiser, the Démocratie, and was successfully boarded by Council fusiliers. True to her motto, "Qu'importe la tempête, le Cassard tient tête" (no matter the storm, the Cassard holds fast), she was left adrift, beaten but intact, on the site of her final stand as a reminder of the Council's boldness in its moment of triumph.

Years later, after Languedoc was recaptured, Royal navy leadership requested the ship be pressed back into service as the Bretonian front grew dire. The GMS was chosen for the task and towed the Cassard back to Fourchambault. The repairs had only started when the order to cease fire was given. Extensive works needed to make the Cassard fly again were pushed back on Fourchambault's priority list.

After several months of work, the Cassard was made ready for action once again. Combined with other ships rolling off the various shipyards in Gallia, a new battlegroup was created, with the Cassard as the lead ship. The fleet is notable for the large number of Minarchy personel present in the officer core, the result of considerable lobbying, as it was feared the lack of representation in the Gallic Defense Forces would result in lost influence for Provence. The long term plan is to take over the duties of protecting Dauphine and Languedoc, however the situation in Cologne has required the fleet, which is the most battle ready in Gallia, to be deployed to Zurich in what is the first big test for the crew.

The deployment to Zurich was cut short however with the invasion into the Gallic heartland by Kusari in late 827, and Cassard was redeployed to stem the Kusari advance in Dauphine together with the De Grasse.
