Matthius Ren ran into considerable personal danger when he met and decided to marry his wife Isabel Ren-Laowai and for some time earned the wrath of her brother; Corsair Elder Ben Laowai who considered Ren a buffoon and took the fact that he had not asked permission for his sister's hand in marriage as a personal insult. Ren survived several attempts on his life and has as such developed a healthy set of survival skills. As part of a settlement agreed between himself, his wife and her brother Ren agreed to run regular shipments of Food and other commodities to Planet Crete on behalf of the Elder and he never missed a deadline. The relationship between the Libertonian and the Corsair Elder warmed somewhat, although Ren maintained a healthy sense of caution whenever he visited the Corsair home world. Upon the disappearance of his brother-in-law Ren maintained occasional food shipments to Crete however these were impacted somewhat by the internecine wars that impacted Southern Sirius.
