Dissatisfied with the war time performance of conventional civilian transports for the movement of truly vast stores of cargoes required to maintain Bretonian efforts in the Taus, ship builders at Scarborough Station designed this transport to better survive Kusari raiders, and parasitic unlawfuls in the Omegas.
The realities of a true theater of war making a laughing stock of a conventional transport armaments, the Shetland instead is designed to ferry her load under thick slabs of armor, designed to absorb the pinpricks of her adversaries with impunity.

Review
The latest workhorse to be rolled off the Bretonian construction line is colossal. It's rugged practicality and reliablity make arguably the best supertransport in the colonies. With this ship the Bretonians decided against the all round protection of a solid Transport vessel for a Train design. Sparing no expense on the single CV-4X5r engine and bretonian warship prototype navigational systems for the manned parts of the vessel that formed the bow, they managed to create one of the most powerful and complex propulsion systems to date. Using templates from Tau mining outpost containers, they were easily able to construct a spacious and elegant cargo pod design to function with an on-board crane derived from the the PPR-7177 model commonly used on Bretonian and Libertonian shipyards. And this gives the Shetland the upper hand in transferring cargo at almost every destination. The Handling of this vessel is as what's expected from a Supertransport, but still has some flexibility when altering course from a hostile trajectory. The maneuvering speed doesn't bother you as much as you'd expect, just try not to make any wrong turnings. Sadly the absence of a Countermeasure dropper and Mine slot makes you vulnerable to that loathed Train Cruise Disruptor and can make even a low risk empty journey your last. However a skilled Captain could easily outrun or slip past most pirate or military blockades in the Shetland, but it's pure nature as a Supertransport will always attract unwanted attention. You'l find you'l hardly ever have any use for the Shetland's single turret mount, though it is advised you mount a turret capable of greatly damaging shields should you find yourself with any hope in a sticky situation. Hiring escorts is unavoidable and a must if you want to ensure your cargo reaches it's destination. But compared to the profit this vessel rakes in, any expense will be tiny.Error creating thumbnail: Unable to save thumbnail to destination Review by Chad Jones |
